Québec City

Hôtel de Ville

The edifices of the colony's once-powerful Church face the home of democratic power in the city today – the Hôtel de Ville (City Hall), which dates from 1883 and is surrounded by the park space of the Jardins de l'Hôtel de Ville, scene of numerous live shows in the summer. To the north, the shops on Côte de la Fabrique extend down the hill to the lively restaurants and bars of rue St-Jean; while to the south, the Hôtel de Ville is overlooked by the far more impressive Art Deco buildings of the Hôtel Clarendon and the Édifice Price (the city's first skyscraper), at nos. 57 and 65 rue Ste-Anne, respectively.
