Mont-Sainte-Anne
On the fringes of Beaupré, MONT STE-ANNE is the largest major ski area in the vicinity of Québec City. It offers a well-balanced mix of terrain and comprehensive base area facilities ( www.mont-sainte-anne.com ; day pass $53). Mont Ste-Anne has also successfully marketed itself as an off-season destination and it's now the longest-standing venue on the mountain bike world-cup circuit. In summer you can explore the extensive cross-country mountain bike trails ($10), either staying around the base area to test your trials skills on the North-Shore-style wooden obstacles, or using the gondola ($28 per day) to explore one of the hardest downhill mountain bike courses in the world – though there are easier routes down the mountain too. Bikes can be rented at the base area. The gondola up the mountain is also open to and hikers wanting to enjoy the remarkable views over the St Lawrence and Québec City as well as several marked trails. The resort also operates a respectable golf course, and has a pleasant campsite (
