Montréal Guide
The Western Neighbourhoods
To experience a small-town atmostphere not easily found in central Montréal, head to the city's western neighbourhoods. Westmount, which borders Downtown's western fringes, is an independent city and has a picturesque English feel, complete with Victorian houses and tree-lined streets. The mansion's belonging to the city's Anglo-Saxon elite look down – literally – over the poorer neighobourhoods flanking the banks of the Lachine Canal, like Pointe Ste-Charles and St-Henri. Northwest of Westmount, Cote-des-Neiges is largely residential, populated with families and students. It holds a few important Jewish sights, including a Holocaust Memorial Museum.
