Montréal Guide

Arrival

Montréal's main international airport is the Aéroport International Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau de Montréal (occasionally referred to by its old name of Dorval), or just Montréal-Trudeau for short (code YUL; 514/394-7377 or 1-800/465-1213, www.admtl.com ), is located 22km southwest of the city. The Aérobus airport shuttle service (daily every 30min 7am–1am; takes 35–45 min; $13 one-way, 514/631-1856, www.autobus.qc.ca ) links to the Station Centrale d'Autobus Montréal and the Gare d'Aérobus, adjacent to the train station, from where you can take the complimentary shuttle service to major downtown hotels (some hotels also have vans that pick up guests directly from the airport – ask when booking). Several local buses run from the airport to downtown but they take ages. A taxi downtown is $35.

Montréal's main train station, Gare Centrale, is below the Queen Elizabeth Hotel on the corner of boul René-Lévesque and rue Mansfield, and is entered at 895 rue de la Gauchetière ouest. The station is the major terminus for Canada's VIA Rail trains from Halifax, Toronto, Ottawa, Québec and the Gaspé, as well as US Amtrak trains from Washington and New York. The Underground City links it to Bonaventure Métro station and the rest of downtown. Long-distance buses use the Station Centrale d'Autobus Montréal, at 505 boul de Maisonneuve est ( 514/842-2281 for info on all bus lines). The Berri-UQAM Métro station is beneath it. A number of bus lines – including Orléans Express ( 1-888/999-3977, www.orleansexpress.com ), Québec's main coach company – serve various destinations.
