Canada Guide
Getting around
Except in the cities, getting around Canada by public transport can be a real pain: train services are limited to a light scattering of routes – and VIA Rail, the national carrier, verges on the skeletal – and although buses are much more plentiful, bus stations and stops can be miles from the nearest hotel or campsite. Flying is predictably more expensive, though increasing competition can throw up some decent bargains, but the vast bulk of visitors hire a car and drive. On the other hand, bus and train transport is relatively inexpensive and there are usually discounted fares for seniors, children and sometimes students.
