    1 Blues on Whyte 10329-82nd Ave 780/439-3981 At the Commercial Hotel, this is one of the city's better live music clubs; bands most nights; jam sessions Sat.

    2 Cook County Saloon 8010-103rd St 780/432-2665 Deservedly popular Old Strathcona C&W venue, cited many times as Canada's best country nightclub, attracting twentysomethings in droves and packing out on weekend nights. Price: Cover $4

    3 O'Byrne's Irish Pub 10616-82nd Ave 780/414-6766 Old Strathcona's popular version of an Irish pub has good food, live music, drink and reasonably authentic atmosphere. If this doesn't take your fancy, there are dozen or so other bars an easy stagger away along Whyte Ave.

    4 Yardbird Suite 10203-86th Ave 780/432-0428 Live groups nightly (10pm–2am) in the city's top jazz venue; admission is lower for the Tues night jam session. Nonsmoking rule enforced on Friday.
