Wales Guide

South Wales

The most heavily populated, and by far the most anglicized, part of Wales is the south. This is a region of distinct character, whether in the resurgent seaport cities of Cardiff and Swansea, a bucolic border region, the mining-scarred Valleys or the beauty of the Glamorgan, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire coasts.

    Highlights

1 Blaenafon Fascinating ironworks town plus deep-mine museum.

2 Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff Bay A symphony of opposites – industry and art, grand and intimate – the WMC is a bold and brilliant asset to the capital.

3 National Waterfront Museum A celebration of Welsh innovation and industry – the best museum in Wales.

4 Carreg Cennen Castle A fantasy fortress, with sublime views and exploration.

5 The Pembrokeshire Coast Path A narrow ribbon of mainly clifftop footpath that winds its way through some magnificent coastal scenery.

6 St David's Inspirational village with a splendid cathedral and heart-racing boat trips out to offshore islands.
