The Mediterranean coast and the Hatay

Bars and clubs

1 Ally Kaleiçi Price: 16YTLA complex of bars and a disco on the Roman walls, with an impressive laser show cutting the night sky across the water; but it is prohibitively expensive by local standards, and very unpopular with guests in nearby pensions.

2 The Bar, aka Rock Bar Uzun Carşışı Sok Favoured by students from the local university and Antalya's grunge contingent. Surprisingly passable live rock acts play in a crowded, smoky, upstairs room most weekends. Take a breather and get in some conversation in the downstairs bar, set in a pleasant courtyard garden.

3 Club Arma Kaleiçi Yat Limanı Affluent restaurant cum dance club on the west side of the harbour. A spacious, colonnaded dining area in an old, stone-built warehouse serves expensive fish dishes. The dance area is on a terrace perched right at the sea's edge. Come here to watch Antalya's rich set enjoy an evening out.

4 Demlik Zafer Sok 16 A decent alternative to the Gizli Bahçe, especially if you're not bothered about listening to rock. Tables set under orange trees in a quiet walled garden, and beers for 3.5YTL.

5 Gizli Bahçe Kaleiçi, off Paşa Sok Well-hidden student-oriented bar (ask for the Karatay Medresesi to locate it), beers at 3.5YTL (served with a free helping of salted popcorn), a limited fast-food type menu, rock music and shady garden.

6 King Bar Kaleiçi Just behind the waterfront – a good bet for those whose tastes fall between low rock dives and large dance venues, with varied music, a small dance-floor and beers for around 5YTL.

7 Olympos FalezHotel, 100 Yıl Bu The huge club in the hotel basement has a superb laser show and trilingual DJs playing mostly Eurodisco to a smart Turkish clientele.
