Heading on down Atatürk Bulvarı you pass the Ethnographic Museum (Etnografya Müzesi), a grandiose white-marble building that was the original resting place of Atatürk before the construction of the Anıt Kabir mausoleum – hence the equestrian statue of Atatürk out front. The museum contains an extensive collection of folk costumes and artefacts from Selçuk times onwards, and is packed with carpets, furniture and domestic utensils, alongside a number of re-created Ottoman household interiors. There are also some fine examples of Selçuk woodcarving, including a mihrab from a village mosque near Urgüp that must represent thousands of hours of carving.
