Getting Around

The national train network follows the coast south from Gothenburg, with frequent trains stopping at all towns as far as Ystad, where the line cuts northeast to Kristianstad. Comfortable express trains run east and west across the country, linking Malmö, Helsingborg and Lund with Kristianstad and Karlskrona. However, some of the most beautiful and less-frequented areas are not covered by the train network, and the bus service can be skeletal along the south coast – it's a good idea to equip yourself with timetables from the train and bus stations or tourist offices in Gothenburg and Malmö.

With no really steep hills, the southwest is wonderful country for cycling, and bike rental outlets are numerous; most tourist offices, youth hostels and campsites also rent out bikes. There are also several recognized walking trails, mentioned in the text.
