Örebro
One hundred and sixteen kilometres north of Vadstena and strategically located on the main route from southwest Sweden to Stockholm, the lively and youthful town of ÖREBRO lies near the shores of the country's fourth largest lake, Hjälmaren. While its light industrial hinterland promises little, the heart of Örebro comes as a pleasant surprise, its much-fortified thirteenth-century castle forming a magnificent backdrop for the water lily-studded River Svartån. Aside from the town's attractions, Lake Tysslingen, a few kilometres west, makes for a good afternoon excursion by bike, while in spring the several thousand whooper swans that settle here on their way to Finland provide spectacular viewing.
