The county museum, LänsmuséetGävleborg, has extensive displays of artworks by most of the great Swedish artists from the 1600s to the present day, including Nils Kreuger and Carl Larsson. That makes this a rarity among provincial museums, and attract visitors from across the country. Also on show are displays on the area's ironworks and fisheries, as well as work by local artist Johan-Erik Olsson (popularly known as Lim-Johan), whose vivid imagination and naive technique produced some strangely childlike paintings.
