One of Stockholm's major treasures, the Thiel Gallery (Thielska Galleriet) is a fine example of Swedish architecture and art. The house was built by Fredinand Boberg at the beginning of the twentieth century for a banker, Ernet Thiel, who then sold it to the state in 1924, after which it entered its present incarnation. Thiel, who knew many contemporary Nordic artists, gathered an impressive collection of paintings over the years, including works by Carl Larsson, Anders Zorn, Edvard Munch, Bruno Liljefors and even August Strindberg. The views back towards the city alone are attractive enough to warrant a visit.
