A glass, wood and concrete building draped against a hill holds the impressive Universeum nature and science discovery centre. Water is the main theme: starting with a glacier at the top of the building, 3km of paths follow its journey through a variety of Swedish landscapes to the Baltic Sea. There are detailed English texts about the flora and fauna of each environment. The tour ends in a tropical rainforest with free-flying birds and butterflies. Huge sharks glide around the walk-through oceanarium, while an open tank nearby allows you to stroke a friendly ray. There are good-value cafés on the roof or in the atrium.
