Gustav Adolfs Torg
At the centre of stately Gustav Adolfs Torg, a copper statue of the city's founder, Gustav Adolf, points ostentatiously at the ground where he reputedly declared "Here I will build my city." The statue is a copy, however: the German-made original was kidnapped on its way to Sweden and the Gothenburgers commissioned a new one rather than pay the ransom.
