Gothenburg

Arrival

From Landvetter airport ( 031/94 10 00, www.landvetter.lfv.se ), 25km east of the city, Flygbussarna buses run every fifteen minutes to the bus station. The journey takes around thirty minutes (daily 5am–11.15pm; 60kr; www.flygbussarna.se ). The City airport ( 31/92 60 60, www.goteborgcityairport.se ) is 15km north of Gothenberg; the Flygbussarna airport bus (50kr; 30min) to the bus station meets all flights, and it leaves the bus station 2hr 20min before each flight. A taxi from either airport to the centre will cost about 300kr.

All trains arrive at Central Station, on Drottningtorget in the centre of the city. Just behind, the modern glass bus station handles all regional, national and international bus services. Swebus (Mon– Fri 7.15am–6.15pm, Sat 7.15am–3pm, Sun 9.30am–6.15pm; 0200/21 82 18, www.swebus.se ) and Säfflebussen (Mon– Fri 9am–6pm, Sat & Sun 10am–3pm; 0771/15 15 15, www.safflebussen.se ) both have offices here, selling tickets for destinations in Sweden, as well as Oslo, Trondheim and mainland Europe. For regional bus tickets, visit the Tidpunkten office (Mon– Fri 7.30am–5.45pm, Sat 8am–2pm; there's another office located in Brunnsparken). DFDS Seaways ferries arrive at Frihamnspiren on Hisingen, north of the river ( 031/650 650, www.dfdsseaways.se ); special buses shuttle from here to the bus station (40kr) – walking across the high Göta Älvbron bridge is a long slog. When leaving, buses return to Frihamnspiren ninety minutes before sailings. Stena Line ( 031/704 06 50, www.stenaline.com ) ferries from Frederikshavn in Denmark dock close to Masthuggstorget, twenty minutes' walk or a tram (#3, #9 or #11) ride west of the city centre, while those from Kiel in Germany dock 3km outside Gothenburg – take bus #491 or tram #3 or #9 into the centre.
