    3 Entre-Rúas Callejon de Entre Rúas 2 Excellent seafood raciones at this small, unpretentious bar-restaurant, shoehorned into a tiny square up an even tinier alley between rúas Nova and Vilar.

    4 Enxebre Hostal dos Reis Católicos, Praza do Obradoiro 1 981 582 200 The less formal of the parador's two restaurants, housed in the attractive former cellars and with its own entrance just off the square, serves tasty variations on traditional Galego cuisine, with tapas-sized portions as well as daily specials for €17.

    5 Author Pick Maria Castaña Rúa da Raiña 19 981 560 137 This delightful, cosy bar/restaurant, with rough-hewn tables and exposed stone, serves delicious food at reasonable rather than rock-bottom prices, from simple seafood tapas to paella-like fish cazolos for €27, and has bottles of fine Galego wine at very affordable prices.

    6 Author Pick Sant Yago Rúa da Raiña 12 Smoked hams and cheese are the speciality at this friendly, charming little tapas bar, but the tortillas and seafood are every bit as good, and very well priced, with almost nothing costing over €10.     7 Los Sobriños del Padre Benito de la Casa del Buen Pulpo Fonte de San Miguel 7 The long-winded name belies the simplicity, and quality, of the pulpo (octopus), tortilla and other tapas at this very plain little local restaurant, which has a few pavement tables, and serves white china jugs full of wine for just €4.

    8 O Triángulo das Verduras Praciña das Penas 2 981 576 212. Vegetarian restaurant with a creative flair, and an emphasis on organic ingredients.
