Galicia
Arrival
Santiago's airport, served by Ryanair flights from London Stansted, Liverpool, Barcelona and Valencia, is 13km east of town in Labacolla, on the road to Lugo. Ryanair offers its own connecting bus service (€3), and frequent buses also connect the airport with Santiago's bus station (1–2 hourly), 1km or so east of the old town; bus #5 (€0.90) will take you to the Praza de Galicia. From the train station, the praza is a ten-minute walk north.
Almost all the streets in the old quarter are pedestrianized, and very few hotels offer parking facilities, so drivers have little choice but to use one of the large car parks on the periphery. The closest to the cathedral is the huge Juan XXIII car park, a short distance north, which is also where all coach tours pull in. Local transport and car parks alike are operated by Tussa (www.tussa.org).
