The Museo Patio Herreriano is a beautiful space dedicated to contemporary Spanish art (from 1918 to the present day), with galleries on several floors wrapped around a Renaissance courtyard of luminous pale gold stone. There's a permanent display of works by artists at the forefront of Spanish Cubism, Surrealism and abstract art, including Rafael Barrados, Joaquin Torres-García, Julio González and Ángel Ferrant, but also temporary exhibitions by young contemporary artists and sculptors, sometimes of the light-flashing-pointlessly-in-a-room variety but often with bouts of real quality, too. A stylish café-bar sits on the modern patio outside.
