Arrival

The airport is 17km west of the city on the A92 autovía; buses connect with Plaza Isabel La Católica in the centre of town (14 daily; 30min; €3 one way). Buses run out to the airport from a stop on the east side of Gran Vía opposite the cathedral. Alternatively, a taxi costs about €20–25.

The train station is 1km or so out on Avda. de Andaluces, off Avda. de la Constitución; to get into town, take bus #3, #4, #6 or #9, which run direct to Gran Vía de Colón and the centre, or bus #11, which takes a circular route – inbound on the Gran Vía and back out via the Puerta Real and Camino de Ronda. The most central stop is by the cathedral on the Gran Vía. The city's main bus station is on Carretera de Jaén (958 185 480), some way out of the centre in the northern suburbs – bus #3 from outside will drop you near the cathedral (15min).

Arriving by car you'll face the usual snarl-ups in the centre of town (try to time your arrival with the siesta) and the near-impossibility of finding on-street parking. Underground car parks (parking subterráneo) are located at Puerta Real (down the right-hand side of the post office); La Caleta, near the train station; and on c/San Agustín, beneath the new municipal market off the west side of Gran Vía near the cathedral. Long-term free street parking places are often to be found along Carrera del Genil and the Paseo del Salón, slightly southwest of the centre.
