From the bus station, take bus #3 to the cathedral and then the circular #11, which will drop you outside. It's efficiently run with lots of facilities, and all rooms are en-suite doubles; the staff are friendly but the food is institutional; it can also be booked up for days ahead in summer.     16 Hotel Guadalupe Paseo de la Sabica s/n 958 223 423, www.hotelguadalupe.es Comfortable and well-appointed hotel a stone's throw from the Alhambra's entrance – some of the a/c rooms have partial Alhambra views. Clients get reduced-rate parking in Alhambra car park, or the Alhambra bus from Plaza Nueva drops you nearby. In July and Aug, rates are cut by thirty percent.Price: €71-100

The nearby, slightly cheaper but equally attractive Carmen de Santa Inés (same phone no.) is owned by the same proprietors and occupies a restored Moorish carmen (garden villa).Price: €101-150

    19 Hotel Los Tilos Plaza de Bib-Rambla 4 958 266 712 www.hotellostilos.com Pleasant, two-star hotel well located near the cathedral on an atmospheric square; make sure you request an exterior room if you don't want to overlook a gloomy light well. All rooms a/c, and some higher ones (try 301 & 302 or 401 & 402) have great Alhambra views. Price: €71-100

    20 Author Pick Parador de San Francisco Real de la Alhambra 958 221 440 www.paradores.com Without question the best – and most expensive – place to stay in Granada; a fifteenth-century converted monastery in the Alhambra grounds. The cheapest rooms are €310. Booking (at least three months ahead) is essential. If you aren't staying, call in for a drink at the attractive terrace bar. A high-class restaurant offers a varied and not-too-bank-breaking menú (around €32). Laudably, they also do equally good vegetarian (€24.50) and diabetic (€32) menús. Price: €310

    21 Camping Reina Isabel 4km along the Zubia road southwest of the city 958 590 041 With a pool, this is a less noisy and shadier site than the Sierra Nevada, making a pleasant rural alternative; can be reached by the Zubia-bound bus from the bus station, but with your own transport the city is still in easy reach.
