Scotland Guide
The Highlands
Inverness
Over one hundred miles from any other principal Scottish settlement and with a population of around 50,000, Inverness is the only city in the Highlands. It's a good base for day-trips and a jumping-off point for many of the more remote parts of the region. Though boasting few conventional sights, the city's setting on the banks of the River Ness is appealing.
