Jarlshof is the largest and most impressive of Shetland's archeological sites. The best-preserved buildings are the Pictish wheelhouses surrounding a Neolithic broch, and also the Norse longhouses. Towering over the whole complex is the laird's house, originally built by Robert Stewart, Earl of Orkney, in the late sixteenth century.
