Edinburgh International Airport ( 0870/040 0007, www.baa.com ) is at Turnhouse, seven miles west of the city centre, close to the start of the M8 motorway to Glasgow. Airlink shuttle buses (#100; journey time 30min; £3) connect to Waverley Station in the centre of town; they run 24 hours a day, with services departing every ten or twenty minutes between 5am and midnight, then hourly through the night. Taxis charge around £15-20 for the same journey. Edinburgh Shuttle ( 0845/500 5000; www.edinburghshuttle.com ) operates a useful shared taxi service using seven-seater mini-buses, and runs between the airport and any address in a large chunk of central Edinburgh for £8 for a single journey.

The busand coach terminal for local and intercity services is located on the east side of St Andrew Square, two minutes' walk from Waverley Station.
