The former Lopukhin mansion has been turned into a Tolstoy Literary Museum (muzey L.N. Tolstovo) which exhaustively documents the man and his times. Though its engravings, manuscripts and photos are less interesting than Tolstoy's actual residence in the Khamovniki district, the ceiling decorated with sphinxes rates a look. The house was built by Afanasy Grigoriev, one of the most prolific architects of the Russian Empire style.
