Moscow Guide
Getting around
Tours
If you don't speak Russian and you find Moscow a bit daunting, guided tours can make things a lot easier. The obvious first choice is Capital Tours (
232 24 42,
capitaltours@col.ru,
www.capitaltours.ru ) in the Gostiniy dvor on ul. Ilinka, just off Red Square. Their three-hour city tour (daily 11am & 2.30pm) will familiarize you with such landmarks as the Bolshoy Theatre, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour and the Sparrow Hills, while their walking tour of the Kremlin and the Armoury Museum (daily except Thurs 10.30am & 3pm; R2100) is an ideal introduction to Moscow's historic seat of power. It's advisable to book by phone or online (payment by Amex, MC, Visa or rubles only).
A wider range of excursions is offered by their sister company, Patriarshy Dom Tours (

As well as tours of the old Tretyakov Gallery (R560) and the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts (R510), the company offers exclusive access to the otherwise off-limits Great Kremlin Palace (R2100). They also run themed tours, such as Jewish Moscow (R840), Stalin's Moscow (R620) and the War and Peace trail (R2000).
