All flights to the Algarve land at Faro, the administrative capital of the region since 1776 and by far the largest town along the coast. The centre of town is considerably more attractive than the concrete suburbs might suggest, and there are some fine beaches within easy reach. The university contributes a lively nightlife, during termtime at least.
