Money

Portuguese currency is the euro (€). Banks are open Mon– Fri 8.30am–3pm; in Lisbon and in some of the Algarve resorts, exchange offices may open in the evening to change money. ATMs can be found all over and credit cards are widely accepted; travellers' cheques are increasingly difficult to exchange outside tourist hotspots, and commission on them can be high.
