Vilnius

The Old Town

Just south of Cathedral Square lies the Old Town (Senamiestis), a dense network of narrow, largely pedestrianized streets that forms the heart of Vilnius and invites aimless wandering. Although any tour of the area will inevitably involve numerous detours down side streets or into inviting corners, the main reference points are Pilies gatvė (Castle Street), which ascends gently from Cathedral Square, and its extensions Didžioji and Aušros Vartų, which cut south through the heart of historic Vilnius. Almost everything you'll want to see in the Old Town lies on or just off this artery.
