1 Bazeel Piazza Garibaldi 15. This stylish bar is currently Pisa's most favoured hangout – the interior is cool and spacious, but when the weather's good the punters prefer the outside tables, or even the parapet overlooking the river. DJs on Fri & Sat, live music Thurs & Sun. Opening time: Daily 5pm–2am
2 Pasticceria Salza Borgo Stretto 46. The best-known café-pasticceria in Pisa, and quite rightly so; it has a restaurant section at the back, but the coffee and cakes are the main reason to come. Opening time: Tues– Sun 8am–8.30pm
