www.bottegavini.it One of the top restaurants in Verona, with flamboyant antique decor and one of the largest selection of wines in Italy. It's not cheap – mains go up to €27 – and slightly touristy but plenty of locals drop in for a glass of wine earlier in the evening. 9 Tre Marchetti "Da Barca" Vicolo Tre Marchetti 19/B 045.803.0463 A couple of steps north of the arena, this place is perfect for a pre- or post-opera meal of Veronese specialities, such as bigoli pasta or veal braised in Amarone. It's a very elegant family-run place – unsurprisingly pricey, given its location. Booking essential. Opening time: Closed Sun (closed Mon only in July & Aug)
