The remote nuraghic village of TISCALI (daily: May– Sept 9am–7pm; Oct– April 9am–5pm; €5) lies spectacularly sited within a vast mountain-top cavern, a half-day trip from Oliena, 12km southeast of Nuoro. All hikes should be accompanied by a guide, which can be arranged through Oliena's helpful tourist office on the main Corso Deledda (Mon– Sat 9.30am–1pm & 4–7pm;
