Sardinia
Olbia
The largest town in Sardinia's northeastern wedge, OLBIA owes its recent phenomenal growth to the huge influx of tourists bound for one of the Mediterranean's loveliest stretches of coast, the Costa Smeralda. Awash with traffic and ugly apartment blocks, Olbia is the least Sardinian of all the island's towns. Its port and airport, however, make it an inevitable stop for some and its numerous bars and restaurants are usually a-buzz with tourists, sailors from the port and US service personnel from the nearby NATO base.
