2 Caffè Ducale Piazza del Popolo 21 0721.34.279 If you feel like a sit-down and some people-watching, the square-side Caffè Ducale is one of the prime spots to do it. Revive yourself with one of their eponymous caffé ducales, a mixture of coffee, chocolate, amoretto and steamed milk.
3 C'era Una Volta Via Cattaneo 26 0721.30.911 Long regarded as the purveyor of the best pies in town, this certainly offers plenty of choice with exactly 100 different types of pizza on the menu, from a simple cheese and tomato offering (€3) to one laden with all manner of mozzarella, sausage, ham, mushrooms, truffles and aubergines (€8). Very reasonably priced.
4 Harnold's Piazza Lazzarini 0721.65.155 Excellent filled panini that are perfect for a quick snack on the go, although you can linger longer at the tables on the square if you want. Opening time: Closed Sun in winter
5 Meilin Via Baviera 29 0721.37.1108 If your taste buds fancy a change from the Italian norm, you could pop along to Meilin, just off the Piazza del Popolo, which serves Chinese food with an Italian veneer (ravioli with sweet and sour sauce etc). Takeaway service available.
6 Pasqualon Via G. Bruno 37 0721.371.108. A fine osteria where you can tuck into excellent home-made pasta and a range of pizzas.
7 Polo Des Bains Hotel, Viale Trieste 221 0721.34.957 This is one of the better restaurants along the front, although it's still not a patch on what you'll find in the old town. It offers a huge menu, including over thirty types of pizza, all cooked with uninspired efficiency.
