    5 Kilkenny Design Centre café The Parade The centre's self-service café offers splendid salads and sandwiches, a variety of home-made soups, and more substantial meals, all at reasonable prices.

    6 Lautrec's Brasserie 9 St Kieran St 056/776 2720. A popular night-time bistro serving a variety of pasta dishes and pizzas, as well as specials such as grilled swordfish and Barbary duck; early-bird menu daily except Sat.

    7 M.L. Dore 65 High St Friendly, old-fashioned tearooms, styling itself the "nostalgia café", with a wide variety of snacks, soups, salads and meals on offer during the day and in the evening.
