The Trinkhalle
Address: Kaiserallee
Opening time: Sun– Thurs 10am–2am, Fri & Sat 10am–3am
Fronted by a sixteen-column parade, the Trinkhalle features a 90m portico that shelters fourteen nineteenth-century frescoes depicting local legends. Mark Twain fumed at the "tranquil contemptuousness" of the young female clerks who served spa waters to nineteenth-century spa-goers; you needn't negotiate them today for a drink from the tap in the centre of the hall. Plastic cups for the purpose are available from the adjoining café for a small charge.
