The Kunsthalle features dependably high-profile international contemporary art exhibits. Its bold modern concrete-and-glass annex, by Richard Meier, is home to Sammlung Frieder Burda (Tues– Sun 10am–6pm; €9; 07221/39 89 80, www.sammlung-frieder-burda.de), one of Germany's most extensive private modern art collections: a high-octane display of German Expressionism, Cubist Picassos and Abstract Expressionists such as Pollock and de Kooning.
