Just across the square from the Friedrichsbad is the more modern Caracalla Spa, named in honour of the Roman emperor who nurtured Baden-Baden's bathing culture. It contains modern pools (one outdoor) between 18 and 38°C as well as steam baths and saunas (the only nude area of the complex). The three springs – the Friedrichsquelle, Fettquelle and Murquelle – that spout from fountains in the upstairs foyer can be viewed without admission, and many people simply come here to knock back a glass of their curative warm and salty water; it's not a taste that's forgotten in a hurry though.
