Near the university arts departments, a gutted villa serves as the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst (Gallery of Contemporary Arts), with temporary exhibitions of post-1945, largely avant-garde abstract artwork that didn't square with the GDR aesthetic. The gallery's second space is adjacent glass-walled pavilion GfZK-2 (same times; prices vary); home, too, to a hip café redesigned by a local artist every couple of years.
