Mädler-Passage
Address: Grimmaische Strasse
Mädler-Passage is the Jugendstil doyenne of Leipzig's shopping arcades, whose expensive boutiques would have been unthinkable in communist days. It also boasts literary connections – Goethe had Mephistopheles and Faust bamboozle a trio of ruffians with magic in its Auerbachs Keller before they rode away on a barrel, a scene commemorated in bronzes outside.
