Arrival

Leipzig's Hauptbahnhof lies at the northern edge of a ring road that encircles the Altstadt. A sight in its own right, the grand 1880s building from the golden age of rail is among the largest rail termini in Europe, whose hall doubles as a large shopping centre where DJs and bands get the weekend going on Friday evening. The airport, Leipzig-Halle ( www.leipzig-halle-airport.de ) 18km north, is linked by the Flughafen Express and slower Regional Express trains. A taxi will cost around €30. If you arrive by car, the cheapest central parking is in open-air car parks on Querstrasse, one block east of Georgiring.
