Arrival

Dresden has two main train stations: the revamped Hauptbahnhof south of the Altstadt and Dresden-Neustadt in the north. Dresden-Mitte is en route to the latter at the far west edge of the Altstadt but not especially convenient. The airport ( www.dresden-airport.de ) lies 9km northwest of Dresden, linked to the Hauptbahnhof by S-Bahn line S2; double-decker trains run every thirty minutes and go via Dresden-Neustadt. Expect to pay €16–18 for a taxi.
