On the east side of Domplatz, the elaborate Renaissance Ratsstube houses the Historisches Museum, whose rich and varied collection documents the history of Bamberg and the surrounding area. Its treasures include paintings by Lucas Cranach the Elder and Pieter Bruegel as well as an early view of Bamberg – and one of the earliest-ever painted depictions of a German city – in TheApostles' Farewell by Wolfgang Katzheimer the Elder.
