The bunker-like Kunsthalle is the first of an impressive string of museums and art galleries fringing the Hofgarten, a graceful, lake-studded park laid out in the eighteenth century and later extended by Napoleonic decree. The Kunsthalle hosts big-name temporary exhibitions of modern art and is also home to the Kunstverein, which promotes the work of less established artists, and to the Kom(m)ödchen, a political cabaret.
