At the southern corner of the Hofgarten park is the Arithmeum, a beautifully presented exhibition that traces the history of arithmetic, from the clay tablets used in ancient Mesopotamia through various increasingly ingenious and beautiful mechanical calculating machines to the silicon chip. There's plenty of information in English, and the light-filled museum building is a delight.
