Aachen's elegant Wilhelmine Kurviertel (spa district) is dominated by the portico of the Neues Kurhaus, which houses the swanky CasinoAachen, for which you're expected to dress smartly, though men don't need a tie. Behind the Kurhaus, the pretty Stadtgarten was the work of the great Prussian garden designer Peter Joseph Lenné (1789–1866).
