The Palais Bellevue on the north side of Karlsaue houses the Brüder-Grimm-Museum, which charts the careers of the brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, their association with Kassel and the extraordinary international success of their children's tales. The brothers studied law at Marburg, and were subsequently appointed librarians at the court of the Elector in Kassel before falling from favour and moving to Göttingen, where they again fell foul of the local ruler. In their lifetimes the brothers were widely respected for their grammatical works, and in 1840 they were summoned to Berlin by Friederich Wilhelm IV of Prussia. There they remained for the rest of their lives, working on their German dictionary.
