2 Café Karin Grosser Hirschgraben 28 Popular café just around the corner from the Goethe-Haus. It serves breakfast until 6pm, and has plenty of outside seating in fine weather.

4 Chalet Multilounge Speicherstr. 49–51 069/15 24 91 71 More Heidi Klum than Heidi, this chic alpine-themed café/bar on the Westhafen does great breakfasts, including delicious omelettes, plus pizzas, noodle dishes and salads.
5 Coa Schillerstr. 4 069/92 03 99 66 Pan-Asian food including stir-fries, curries and noodle dishes in a minimalist setting close to the Börse. Main courses from €6.50, including plenty of veggie choices, and there's a second branch at Kaiserstr. in the Bahnhofsviertel.
6 Harvey's Bornheimer Landstr. 64 069/48 00 48 78 Stylishly revamped, high-ceilinged neighbourhood bar-restaurant, with a versatile menu and plenty of seating outside. Between Nordend and Bornheim. Mon– Fri until 1am, Sat 2am, Sun midnight.
7 Holbein's Holbeinstr. 1 069/66 05 66 66 The Städel's bistro is an airy modern place, great as a culinary pitstop while pounding the Museumsufer and with a sunny terrace. Opening time: Tues– Sun until midnight.
8 Die Kuh die Lacht Schillerstr. 28 069/27 29 01 71 The name means "the cow that laughs", and the friendly service and excellent burgers – including veggie options – are sure to induce a smile. From around €6.
9 La Maison du Pain Schweizer Str. 63. Sachsenhausen's best breakfast place is a classy, overtly Francophile affair, with prodigious pastries, cakes and breads, plus salads and tartines.

11 Lennox Jahnstr. 51 069/90 55 03 91 Elegant little Nordend place with accomplished cooking that blends Italian and modern German influences; there's a €31 set menu, pasta and veggie mains start at €12 and meat dishes from €18.
12 Metropol Café am Dom Weckmarkt 13–15. This relaxed café in the shadow of the Dom is one of the best bets for a meal or snack in the Altstadt, with organic produce, good cakes and a pleasant outdoor terrace. Open from breakfast until late.
13 Morgan's Prime Cut Steak Grill Clemensstr. 10–12 069/70 79 36 77 Upmarket steak place on the eastern fringe of Bockenheim, close to U-Bahn Bockenheimer Warte and the Palmengarten.
14 Siesmayer Siesmayerstr. 59 069/90 02 92 00 Frankfurt's most alluring spot for Kaffee und Kuchen, on the fringe of the Palmengarten, with a sunny terrace fronting the park. It's also a great place for an alfresco lunch. Opening time: Open daily
