The focus of the Deutsches Filmmuseum is the technical development of moving pictures. The exhibits – which are labelled in German only – start with early peep-show devices such as the Mutoscope and Magic Lantern before progressing to the pioneering work of the Lumière brothers and to modern special effects. Temporary exhibitions explore the cultural side of cinema history.The cinemas at the Filmmuseum occasionally show English-language films with the original soundtrack and German subtitles (OmU).
