The Brechthaus is where the poet and playwright Bertolt Brecht was born on February 10, 1898, though he didn't stay long – the family upped sticks the same year. The building now houses an exhibition on the writer's life and work. Brecht's relationship with Augsburg was a scratchy one, and it was only from the mid-1960s on, as the Cold War began to thaw a little, that the city fathers considered him worthy of recognition.
